Cultural Homesteads

The Bomas of Kenya cultural centre situated at the outskirts of Nairobi(Lang’ata/Forest Edge Road)offers the visitors a unique experience of traditional Kenya in a miniature. In a serene and natural environment, we display replicas of traditional homesteads from different ethnic communities of Kenya. The centre has twenty-three (23) authentic homesteads that vividly portray the diversity of our country.

These replicas contain information on the lifestyle of our forefathers with details such as, for example, the cultural meaning behind the arrangement of the different huts, granaries, cattle sheds, etc. For instance, in the Gikuyu village, the grandmother’s hut was the one closest to the main gate in order to protect the family from outside dangers, since it was believed that elderly women spend most of the night awake.

The cultural homesteads are open from 10:00 6:00 p.m. every day (Monday to Sunday) and included in the Daily Shows entry fee. Our guides are available to take you around the homesteads at your own leisure.
